Reconciled Week One Day Four

One of the most beautiful attributes of God is that he is never-changing.

Numbers 23:19-20  NIV says “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?I have received a command to bless; he has blessed, and I  cannot change it.”

God has made up His mind about you. He decided to love you long before you wanted to be loved, and there is nothing you can do to change that.

If nothing we could ever do will make God love us less, then what keeps us from running into his arms when we fail?

A lot of times, I run from God because I feel ashamed of my sin. I know that he is good, and I just can’t measure up. What I forget is that he knew that too and that’s why he came. He knew I couldn’t measure up, and instead of leaving me out to dry, he came to my rescue. He brought me in from the cold of night and into the warmth of his love. I’m so thankful that he steadily pursues me in my hiding. He seeks me out and wraps me up even when I feel so very unlovable. My sin will never change His mind. His mind is made up about me, and it’s made up about you too. The verdict is in, we are loved by a God whose love is unshakeable.

James 1:17 NIV  says“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

Why is it hard to believe the truth that God does not change like shifting shadows?

I think a lot of times we put God in a people box. We believe God couldn’t possibly be never-changing because we are all so fickle. We’ve all been around a child when asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?’ It’s so precious to see their answers. One minute they want to be a police officer, the next a teacher, the next a clown… the list is always changing.

Sometimes we believe the lie that God changes his mind like a child. We think that because we change our minds constantly, that God does too. We have to start choosing to believe the truth that God never changes. I wouldn’t want to put my trust into someone who is always changing their minds… and if you’re honest, neither would you. We can rest on the promise that he is the same yesterday, today and forever. We can trust in God, because he is consistent.. He is steady… He is safe.. That’s the kind of God I want to serve. Because I’m chaotic.. I’m unsteady.. I’m a disaster and I’m in need of a God that will still my heart when it runs rampant… I’m so thankful that I have one.

Prayer:

Lord I repent of believing the lie that you are a fickle God. I repent of believing the lie that my actions change how you feel about me. Lord teach me to trust in the truth that you are never-changing. Bless me with a spirit that trusts in the steadiness of you. Draw me close to you. Still my heart when it runs rampant. I choose to place my trust in you.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
