Week Three Day Four

Women are very emotional beings. Often times we lead with our emotions, and they occasionally get a little out of control. Emotions are a beautiful part of life, when they are submissive to God. Emotions are how we feel love and compassion. They are a huge part of relationship with others and without them this life would be incredibly dull.

If emotions were created to be beautiful, then why do they often times lead to so much heartache? What I’ve found to be true in my own life is that I don’t have control of my emotions, my emotions have control of me. Ouch. That stings a little.

You’ve all been in a heated moment with someone you love.. maybe a friend, family member, child, spouse.. .whoever it may be, and it has escalated quickly. There are moments in my marriage that my husband and I will be in a heated discussion and before you know it, he makes one comment and I get so mad that I could throw something at him.

Our emotions are unstable and our heart is going to fail us.

Jeremiah 17:9 ESV says “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”

1 John 3:20 NIV says “If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.”

What do these verses have in common about our hearts?

Emotions are horrible leaders, but they are excellent followers. We have to train our emotions to follow the truth from scripture.

David understood that our hearts are wicked.

In Psalm 51:10-12 NIV David prays, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”

Psalm 139:23-24 NIV he prays, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Take some time today to pray these verses over yourself. Say them out loud. Declare the truth that when your heart condemns you, the Lord is greater than your heart. Ask Him to reveal any areas in your heart that need to be cleansed and then give Him permission to clean them.

Lord cleanse my heart today. Fix the areas that need to be fixed. Keep me in your presence dear Lord. Don’t take your Holy Spirit away from me sweet Jesus. I love you sweet Jesus. I ask this in your name Lord. I give you the praise and the glory. Amen!!!’
